How can Assistive Technology help with Classroom Behavior Management ?

 What is behavior?

Functions of Behavior

Here are some examples of each function:

"Positive Reinforcement describes a functional relation between two environmental events: a behavior  (any observable action) and a consequence (a result of that action). Positive reinforcement is demonstrated when a behavior is followed by a consequence that increases the behavior's rate of occurrence (Alberto, P & Troutman A, 2021)."

"Negative reinforcement describes a relationship among events in which the rate of a behavior's occurrence increases when some (usually aversive or unpleasant) environmental condition is removed or reduced in intensity" (Alberto, P & Troutman A, 2021

Three examples of Assistive Technology that supports behavior :

Classroom incentive charts are great behavior management tools that can support behaviors in the classroom. An incentive chart is a low assistive technology that students can use to track their good behaviors and points earned for good behaviors. For example, if a teacher pairs an incentive chart with a token economy system which states that if a student earns ten stars, then they can select a prize of their choice from the classroom's treasure box, then the fact that the students can visually monitor their points/stars will motivate the students to work hard by displaying desired behaviors.

Here is an example of an incentive chart :

A timer is a middle assistive technology that can support behavior in the classroom. A timer can help to keep students on task or to accurately monitor their time during classwork. Using timers is effective for classroom behavior management.

The Go Guardian software monitoring is a great high-assistive technology tool for monitoring students while doing assigned activities on their digital devices. A teacher can actively monitor all students' work and interact online using the Go Guardian application.
